Families in Samsam Village Tabanan save time and money using terra water filters!

Samsam village, Tabanan, Bali - a serene peri-urban village 20 minutes away from the centre of Tabanan city. Many in this village are farmers, with the next generation working in tourism that has recently been impacted by the Covid-19 induced recession.

Within this village, a banjar called Banjar Jangkahan participated in the Plastic Exchange movement, an island-wide initiative started by Janur Yasa, that exchanges collected plastic waste with points redeemable with rice, cooking oil, and other basic necessities. Janur himself was born and raised in the very same Samsam village, now he's the owner of a flourishing restaurant in Ubud famous for its Sunday market called Moksa Ubud.

On July 10th 2020, a total of 19 ladies and 1 man of Plastic Exchange Banjar jangkahan, divided in 2 separate groups at a safe distance, joined together to attend a WASH (water, sanitation and hygiene) training by Terra Water Indonesia. Within the same day, they received a basic terra filter to try at home for the next 30 days.

Fast forward 30 days and 19 of 20 families proceeded to buy the filter after their free trial ends.

"The filter reminds me of Jeding, a traditional water storage we use in my childhood, I really like it" says Pak Suwardi, a farmer living together with her husband and 2 children.

"I really like that I can now drink water without having to boil them, it takes time to boil water and to wait for it to cool down. Boiled water also have this weird taste that I cannot point out" explained Ibu Putu Suciani a housewife, prior to using terra she was boiling her tap water everyday for herself and her family.

Terra water takes pride in educating and supporting Indonesian families like those in Samsam Village, Tabanan. With their terra filters these families has saved money, 10 times more money saved than buying gallon. Moreover, the women who are in charge of drinking water management at home now have more opportunities to pursuit other things rather than boiling water.

We , terra water is looking to replicate the success story of Samsam Village in other locations in Indonesia. We aim to make clean water available for all, naturally and responsibly.
